2 men shot and killed after committing home invasion in Phoenix

PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating a shooting that left two men dead after they forced their way into a home, authorities said.
Around 7:45 a.m. Saturday morning, officers were called to the area near 27th Place and McDowell Road and upon arrival found two men who suffered gunshot wounds on the ground in front of a home, according to a release.
Witnesses told officers the shooter was inside the home and officers developed a plan to move the men to safety while they awaited paramedics.
The two men were taken to separate hospitals where they both died from their injuries, authorities said.
Police were able to communicate with the three suspects in the home and they were peacefully detained.
Detectives arrived to the scene and interviewed the home’s occupants where they provided consistent details of self-defense, stating the men tried to force their way into the home.
The suspects were later released and charges will be submitted for review, the release said.
The names of the men have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
