PHOENIX – A planned mixed-used development in the shadow of State Farm Stadium will be known as “District at Sportsman’s Park, Glendale,” the West Valley suburb announced Wednesday.

The city of Glendale, the Arizona Cardinals and developer Plaza Companies are collaborating on the project at the southeast corner of 95th Avenue and Cardinals Way, just south of the stadium.

The chosen moniker extends the existing brand of several venues on the stadium grounds: the Great Lawn at Sportsman’s Park, Heritage at Sportsman’s Park and South Lawn at Sportsman’s Park.

“The connection between District at Sportsman’s Park, Glendale and State Farm Stadium — and its adjacent Great Lawn — brings a unique opportunity for an enhanced guest and user experience year-round as we continue to add amenities such as Heritage at Sportsman’s Park and the BetMGM Sportsbook,” Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill said in a press release.

“We look forward to collaborating with Plaza Companies and the city of Glendale to create a distinctive mixed-use business center that attracts companies, creates jobs and enhances our exceptional regional amenities.”

The District at Sportsman’s Park, Glendale is one of several major projects in the works near State Farm Stadium. The BetMGM Sportsbook is being built on the north side of the Great Lawn, while the massive VAI Resort beach-themed hotel and the Mattel Adventure Park are under construction just west of the mixed-use development site.

The Glendale City Council green-lighted the District in August 2021. Plans call for office space, restaurants, retail stores and multi-family residential units along with parking that can be used by stadium and resort visitors.

“This project will create new employment opportunities for the community, attract business and commerce to the area and will provide additional enhancements for this critically important area of Glendale,” City Manager Kevin Phelps said in the release.

“We look forward to continuing to work with Plaza Companies and the Arizona Cardinals on this project as we create a new economic engine for the community and a dynamic live, work experience in Glendale that is unrivaled in the region.”
