PHOENIX – Tips from the community helped police identify and arrest a man accused of brutally beating a Phoenix cellphone store employee.

The Phoenix Police Department distributed video surveillance footage of the weekend attack on Tuesday morning and had the suspect in custody later that day.

Michael Cook, 33, was booked into Maricopa County Jail on counts of robbery, kidnapping, assault and criminal trespass/burglary.

“Multiple tips were received, and the suspect was identified,” Sgt. Philip Krynsky said in a press release. “The Cactus Park Neighborhood Enforcement Team scoured the area where the suspect was believed to be. A short time later, the suspect was located and arrested.”

The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. Saturday at the Cricket Wireless store at Bethany Home Road and 43rd Avenue.

The video shows a man punching, kicking and stomping on the woman for about 35 seconds before stopping. The victim gets up and runs out of the store, and the man goes into what appears to be a back office.

The woman called police from a nearby business. She was bleeding and had a laceration on her face when officers arrived at the scene.

Police said the suspect stole phones and cash after he beat the employee.
