PHOENIX — A 16-year-old boy was arrested Friday afternoon following a fatal shooting in Phoenix, authorities said.

The suspect, whose name will not be released, was booked for manslaughter, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting around 3 p.m. near 47th Avenue and Thomas Road and found Germain Carrasco, 17, with an apparent gunshot wound in the back seat of the vehicle, police said.

An investigation revealed the suspect was trying to unload the gun when he allegedly accidentally shot Carrasco, police said. He remained on scene and was detained.

Carrasco was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.
