PHOENIX — A water main break in Tempe caused complete flooding on a two-mile stretch of U.S. 60, forcing road closures in both directions from Loop 101 to Rural Road, according to a release from the city of Tempe.
Officials said a 24-inch water transmission line broke overnight under the U.S. 60 and water utility crews are on the scene, working to shut off water at the location.
The repair may take several days to complete, according to the release.
ADOT officials recommend using the Loop 202 Santan or Red Mountain freeways as alternative routes to navigate around the stretch of road that is now closed.
Baseline Road to the south and Southern Avenue to the north are also good alternatives for shorter distance travel.
The water main break is just very close to the start of a separate planned closure for the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project.
The westbound I-10 is set to be closed from the Loop 202 Santan/South Mountain interchange to the U.S. 60 Superstition Freeway from 10 p.m. Friday to noon Sunday.
