PHOENIX — Over the weekend, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump directed some critical comments towards Sen. John McCain, saying he is “very weak” on immigration and could very well be beat if he has an opponent in the upcoming election.
McCain fired back about Trump’s campaign visit to Arizona when he spoke with the New Yorker on Monday.
“It’s very bad,” McCain told the publication. “This performance with our friend out in Phoenix is very hurtful to me. Because what he did was he fired up the crazies.”
McCain also believes Trump is damaging to the entire Republican party in keeping them together.
“Now he galvanized them. He’s really got them activated.”
Trump is currently on top of the polls for support for Republican presidential candidates.
