THE THINK TANK
Think Tank kicks up the sand on Rocky Point as spring break nears

As Arizona approaches its annual spring break season, tens of thousands of Arizonans, young and old, will head south to Puerto Penasco. Some have labeled this “Arizona’s Beach.”
Among those who have never made the trek, many cite danger as a reason, a characterization mostly laughed at by those who go regularly.
Thomas Baldrick is an Arizonan who is host of the Rocky Point Podcast and is in the latter category. As is your host, Mike O’Neil. Both have owned Mexican beach property for over 15 years and both go there regularly.
Based on this, we discuss:
• Why do Arizonans go to Rocky Point?
• Why not California?
• What is it like to cross the border? What can you expect?
• What about the safety objection?
• What has COVID’s impact on tourism to Mexico been?
• What other trends have been evident over the last 20 years (most of the beaches that older Arizonans camp out on have been gobbled up by high-rise condos). A cruise port is partially built, etc.
All things Penasco in this week’s Think Tank.
The Think Tank airs on KTAR 92.3 FM on Saturday 6-7 p.m. and Sunday 9-10 p.m.
Podcasts are available after broadcast. Older shows are archived at www.mikeoneil.org.
