PHOENIX — Gilbert’s Cactus Yards sports complex was named National Complex of the Year by the United States Specialty Sports Association.

The city won the award at the 2021 USSSA National Convention in Orlando and will be presented to the Gilbert Town Council at the Dec. 14 meeting, according to a release from the city.

The sports complex was also recognized as Outstanding Park of the Year by the USSSA Arizona Baseball Chapter in 2019 and 2020.

The award was voted on by coaches and players who competed in the 2020 USSSA Youth Baseball season throughout Arizona, and Cactus Yards had the highest score in the 15-year history of voting, according to the release.

“The Town of Gilbert is honored to have Cactus Yards recognized as the National Complex of the Year by USSSA,” Gilbert’s Parks and Recreation Director Robert Carmona said in the release.

“The staff at Cactus Yards pride themselves in customer service and creating a safe and friendly experience for all visitors to the park and I am incredibly proud of their efforts since the facility opened in 2019.”
