PHOENIX — Arizonans looking to kick back with a beer while enjoying the latest flicks are going to have to wait a little while longer, according to MouthBySouthwest.com.

The Texas-based Alamo Drafthouse Cinema was scheduled to open its first Arizona location in downtown Chandler later this year, but officials said it does not look like that will happen.

Walter Crutchfield with the Phoenix-based real estate developer Vintage Partners said developers found a serious issue with the dirt while inspecting the site.

“We did some geotec work on the site and have found a serious issue with the fill dirt,” he said in an interview with MouthBySouthwest.com. “As a result, we’re behind schedule while working to solve the problem. We’ve slowed everything down on the tenant side because first we have to work towards a solution.”

The development, which will be located on the corner of Arizona Avenue and Chandler Boulevard, is also supposed to house The Vig, La Bocca and Modern Margarita.

The theater’s eight screens will feature new releases, classic films and other programs. Food and drinks will be served during films by a wait staff.

With a lack of groundbreaking on the site, the Chandler location is poised to open mid- to late 2016 at the earliest, according to the website.
