PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey ordered flags be lowered to half-staff on Friday at all state buildings in honor of Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Chad Brackman.

Brackman was working traffic control Wednesday morning while off-duty at 87th Street and McDowell Road when he was hit by the vehicle at about 10 a.m., MCSO Sheriff Paul Penzone said during a press conference.

Brackman was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Ducey said the flags would remain at half-staff from sunrise to sunset.

“Arizona is saddened by this terrible tragedy,” Ducey said in a press release. “Lieutenant Chad Brackman served his communities and our state honorably, and he had a deep devotion to public safety throughout his 22 years of service.

“My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, along with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and the entire law enforcement community.”

Brackman leaves behind a wife, two children and two stepchildren.
