PHOENIX – Police have arrested suspects in two apparently unrelated murder cases that occurred about an hour apart near downtown Phoenix over the weekend, according to authorities.

David Abishadai Orozco was booked Wednesday for first-degree murder and other felony charges in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred around 1 a.m. Sunday in the area of 10th Avenue and Buckeye Road, the Phoenix Police Department said.

Orozco is accused of fatally stabbing Jose Rodolfo Garcia Avila, 21, and wounding a woman during a fight, police said.

The unidentified woman was hospitalized with injuries that weren’t life-threatening. Garcia Avila was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Anthony R. Dickerson was booked Tuesday for second-degree murder and other felonies in connection with a shooting near Ninth Avenue and Jackson Street at around 2 a.m. Sunday.

Dickerson is accused of shooting 55-year-old Zachary Hawthorn, who died after being taken to a hospital.

Police didn’t provide information about a motive in either case.
