PHOENIX – Big things are cooking at Chompie’s, and not just their thickly stacked deli sandwiches.

The Valley mainstay is set to open its fifth, and largest, restaurant next week on the northeast corner of 32nd Street and Cactus Road in Phoenix, about a mile from where the original location debuted in 1979.

“We have been working extremely hard to bring something really special to the neighborhood, which is our former stomping grounds,” Mark Borenstein, co-founder and owner, said in a press release.

“We can’t wait to welcome back our regulars and see some new faces.”

The new restaurant will launch phase one of its opening on Nov. 3 at 6:30 a.m. with the full menu available for fast-casual service at the café and deli counters, with self-seating, takeout and delivery options.

The venue’s full-service dining room, full bar, patio bar and private dining rooms will open about a week later, with the exact date yet to be determined, according to the release.

The new Chompie’s will also have a New York-style market featuring bagels and other goods baked fresh on site and a barista bar featuring Mokas Roastery coffee.

“We think people will enjoy the comprehensive bakery in our new location,” co-founder and owner Neal Borenstein said in the release.

“From everyday items to having something amazing created for a special occasion, we can fill any need right here before your eyes.”

Lou and Lovey Borenstein and their three children opened the first Chompie’s at 32nd Street and Shea Boulevard after moving from Queens, New York.

Chompie’s has current restaurants in Scottsdale, Glendale, Tempe and Chandler as well as takeout operations inside two Fry’s Food stores in Phoenix and two in Gilbert.

A location at Paradise Valley Mall, about 2 miles east of the new restaurant, closed earlier this year, along with the rest of the mall.

We want to hear from you.
