PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department is launching its annual 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge starting next Monday.

The event runs through Feb. 22, 2022 at 4 p.m. The goal is for participants to log 100 miles walking and running or 200 miles biking and on horseback, according to a press release.

Participants can combine their means of moving around but must complete the challenge using 75% of one primary mode.

People can log their miles on the 100 Mile Challenge app or online and must visit at least three different parks, according to the release.

“With an inventory of more than 600-miles of trails, our parks and trails are a big draw for residents and visitors looking to get outside and enjoy the weather,” R.J. Cardin, Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department Director, said in the release.

“The 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge is a great way to learn about our diverse regional park system and jump-start the outdoor season in Maricopa County.”

Those who complete the challenge can order a limited edition t-shirt.

There is a grand prize of a Regional Park Annual Pass and a $25 Nature Center retail voucher, according to the release.

Last year, seven people logged over 500 miles and four reached 1,000.

Participants must register online.
