PHOENIX – Two of the three young children hospitalized over the weekend after a drowning incident in the West Valley have died, authorities said Monday.

Buckeye police and firefighters responded to a 911 call about three children found unresponsive in a residential pool near Miller Road and Interstate 10 around 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

A 1-year-old child was taken to the hospital in fair condition in an ambulance, the fire department said. The other two kids, ages 2 and 3, were transported by helicopter in critical condition.

In an update Monday evening, police said the 2-year-old and 3-year-old died.

An adult relative was at home with the children at the time of the incident, and there was no safety fence around the pool, police said.

The investigation is ongoing. No other information was immediately available.
