This week’s show format is an homage to Pat McMahon’s “The McMahon Group,” which regularly brought together interesting people who might not normally intersect with each other.
For me, it had the additional aspect of bringing in people who I did not really know, but whom I knew of or had met only tangentially. In each case it was someone who I wanted to get to know better. And I invite the audience to get to know these interesting people at the same time.
Lydia Guzman was a persistent critic and nemesis of then-Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Many think it was her tenacity that led to his ultimate legal downfall.
Tyler Montague is a citizen activist and sometime Republican political consultant. He was involved in the recall of Russell Pearce and the election of Jerry Lewis to replace him.
Chris Love is the chair of Planned Parenthood of Arizona. I’ve followed her social media posts, which are clever, witty and thoughtful.
Wide-ranging topics:
• An insider’s perspective on the future of the Republican party
• Critical race theory: what is it?
• The ascendance of Hispanics in Arizona politics
This and more on this week’s Think Tank.
The Think Tank airs on KTAR 92.3 FM on Saturdays 6-7 p.m. and Sundays 9-10 p.m.
Podcasts are available after broadcast.
