5 Valley cities ranked among top 20 in country for first-time homebuyers

PHOENIX — The Valley is one of the best places in the country for first-time homebuyers, according to a personal finance website.
Five Valley cities cracked the top 20 list of the best cities in the country for somebody looking to purchase their first home, according to WalletHub.
Gilbert was No. 2 on the list, with Peoria (No. 7), Surprise (No. 10), Chandler (No. 12) and Scottsdale (No. 17) following behind.
The rankings took 300 U.S. cities that varied in size and compared each based on affordability, the real estate market and quality of life.
Gilbert’s real estate market was fifth-best in the country, with the Peoria real estate market coming in at No. 9.
All of the cities with the exception of Scottsdale were also within the top 40 for affordability, while being in the middle of the pack among all the cities for quality of life.
Other Arizona cities to make the list include Yuma (No. 60), Mesa (No. 62), Glendale (No. 72), Phoenix (No. 77), Tempe (No. 83) and Tucson (No. 100).
California was found to be one of the worst states in the country for first-time homebuyers, with nine of the ten lowest-ranked cities being located in The Golden State.
Gilbert was edged out for the top spot by Chesapeake, Virginia, which ranked among the top 30 in each of the categories including a No. 4 quality of life.
