2 dead, including teen, 1 other injured in Mesa shooting

PHOENIX — Two people are dead, including a teen, and another teen was hurt after a triple shooting in Mesa Tuesday night, authorities said.

Mesa Police Department officers arrived on the scene near Broadway and Gilbert roads around 10 p.m. and found three people who were shot in an apartment.

A man and a 16-year-old boy both sustained gunshot wounds in the torso and were transported to the hospital where they were pronounced dead, authorities said.

The adult male who died was identified as Michael Benitez of Mesa. Authorities did not release his age.

A 15-year-old old boy was also transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg, authorities said.

The families of each have been notified, authorities said.

Detectives are still working the case and authorities said there are currently no suspects in custody.

No additional information was made immediately available at this time.
