PHOENIX — A Buckeye police sergeant is recovering after being injured Saturday night in a collision with a suspected drunk driver, according to authorities.

The suspected drunk driver T-boned his fully marked patrol car just before 10:30 p.m. at 4th Street and Arizona Eastern Avenue in Buckeye, with the collision forcing both vehicles into the corner of a nearby building.

The sergeant, the driver and a passenger in the suspect’s vehicle were all transported to the hospital.

Police say the sergeant is recovering from his injuries at home after being released from the hospital, while the driver and passenger in the other vehicle remain hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Along with being suspected of driving while intoxicated, the driver had warrants out for his arrest in both Arizona and California.

The suspect will be booked into jail on a number of charges once released from the hospital, according to authorities.
