PHOENIX — Shadow Mountain High School’s Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps unit in Phoenix is one of only 10 high school programs across the United States to be selected as the inaugural cohort of high school Space Force JROTC detachments.
“We are very excited to offer this unique opportunity for our Shadow Mountain High School JROTC students,” Principal David Appleman said in a press release.
Selection of schools for the program was based on proximity to space bases, facilities and centers of influence or a current instructor cadre with prior space operations experience.
Shadow Mountain joins other schools in Virginia, New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado, Alabama, Texas, Florida, California and North Carolina as part of the inaugural cohort of the program.
Shadow Mountain is in the Paradise Valley Unified School District.
