Paradise Valley Unified School District names new superintendent

PHOENIX — Four months after its top schools official resigned, the Paradise Valley School District Governing Board has selected a new superintendent.

The district announced Friday that Troy Bales will be stepping into the position, effective July 1.

Bales most recently served as assistant superintendent of human resources for PVUSD. Previously, he was principal at the elementary and high school levels from 1999 to 2016.

Former superintendent Jesse Walsh resigned from the role in December after reportedly receiving threats from people who wished to keep the district open to in-person learning amid the pandemic.

James P. Lee, a former 10-year PVUSD superintendent, came out of retirement and has been serving as the acting superintendent since Walsh’s resignation.

The board is expected to approve Bales’ contract during a meeting Thursday,
