Child killed, others injured when hit by truck at Glendale Walmart
PHOENIX — A 4-year-old girl has died after being hit by a truck at a Glendale Walmart on Wednesday morning, according to authorities.
The incident occurred just before 10:30 a.m. near 56th and Northern avenues when police say the girl, a 3-year-old boy and three women were hit by a 68-year-old woman while walking on the sidewalk toward the Walmart.
The driver backed out of a parking spot, stopped and then went forward into the parking space when she struck a parked car and hopped onto the sidewalk, striking the family and pinning the girl under the Nissan Frontier, according to authorities.
Witnesses performed CPR on the girl before paramedics arrived and took the child to the hospital where she later died, according to authorities.
The boy and the children’s mother were also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The children’s grandmother was treated on the scene while their aunt received no injuries.
Police say there is no sign of impairment for the 68-year-old woman at this time and charges may be pending on the incident.
The ages of the women hit and the name of the 68-year-old driver were not released.
