PHOENIX — Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies seized nearly 50 pounds of methamphetamine during a traffic stop near Sunset Point on Interstate 17 last week.
The street value of the drugs was estimated at $150,000, according to a release.
“This is the second major methamphetamine arrests our deputies have made in the last week,” Sheriff David Rhodes said in the release.
Police arrested one man and charged him with four drug-related offenses.
He was identified as 26-year-old Carlos Camargo-Urias from Surprise.
Camargo-Urias was charged with possession of drugs for sale, transportation of drugs for sale, possession of dangerous drugs and involving a minor in a drug offense.
According to the release, Camargo-Urias was traveling with a 17-year-old passenger in the vehicle with him.
Police said a K-9 unit pulled over the suspect on I-17 after noticing reckless driving in a 2014 Nissan Altima.
After observing “extremely nervous” behavior, police searched the vehicle where they subsequently found the meth.
“We all know meth is dangerously addicting and is damaging to the body. I want to thank our K9 deputy for making sure these drugs didn’t make it out into our community,” Rhodes said.
