Fiery fatal crash shuts down part of Loop 202 in Mesa

PHOENIX – One person was killed in a fiery crash on a freeway in east Mesa early Thursday, authorities said.

The wreck and investigation shut down northbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway at Broadway Road shortly before 5 a.m.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said in an email to KTAR News 92.3 FM that the vehicle was said to have been speeding before it hit a wall near University Drive.

The roadway reopened around 6:40 a.m. even as cleanup continued.

No other details were immediately available.
