PHOENIX — The Fairway Drive traffic interchange along Interstate 10 in Avondale is now open to traffic, the city announced Monday.
The interchange allows drivers to connect to and from I-10 via the on- and off-ramps.
Additionally, it gives truck drivers a more direct route to the Avondale Commerce Center which will ease traffic demands on Dysart Road and Avondale Boulevard, according to the city.
A bridge has also been added over I-10 at Fairway Drive, between Dysart Road and Avondale Boulevard.
“The Fairway Drive project, envisioned before I was elected to the City Council, is just one example of the long-range planning that takes place when it comes to capital projects. We’re excited to have it open on schedule,” Avondale Mayor Kenn Weise said in a press release.
The $30 million project broke ground in February 2019, reaching completion on schedule 14 months later.
In addition to the interchange, Fairway Drive was widened from three to five lanes between Garfield and Van Buren streets.
Street lighting, landscaping, striping, signage, landscape irrigation and electrical conduit were also added to the area.
