PHOENIX — One person is dead and another was sent to the hospital after a wrong-way crash early Monday morning on Loop 101 in Glendale, according to authorities.

The crash occurred just before 1 a.m. near Stadium Way.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says the wrong-way vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound HOV lane when it struck another vehicle head-on.

A passenger in the front seat of the wrong-way vehicle, a 26-year-old woman, died in the accident while the 24-year-old driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle struck by the wrong-way driver was not injured.

Authorities believe the wrong-way driver was impaired at the time of the collision.

The northbound lanes of Loop 101 were closed for five hours due to the crash.
