Nov 2, 2020, 12:42 PM | Updated: 4:50 pm

PHOENIX – Westbound traffic on Loop 202 was shut down at Interstate 10 in Phoenix on Monday for about five hours because of a crash involving a cement mixer, authorities said.

The accident occurred around noon on the South Mountain Freeway west of I-10, just past 48th Street, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Westbound Loop 202 traffic was diverted to I-10, and vehicles on I-10 were not allowed to exit to Loop 202 westbound.

The HOV lane of eastbound Loop 202 was also closed because of debris from the crash.

A photo posted to social media by the Arizona Department of Transportation showed the mixer dangling over the median barrier.

The freeway reopened at about 4:45 p.m., ADOT said.
