PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Library District is offering free Wi-Fi and additional hot spot kit rentals in an effort to help provide more online access for residents during the coronavirus pandemic.
The library district is providing free Wi-Fi outside of its 18 branches daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Customers are encouraged to pull into library parking lots or find a place where social distancing is possible to utilize the free service.
“The Maricopa County Library District is dedicated to providing access,” Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Clint Hickman, District 4, said in a press release.
“With the extended reach of Wi-Fi and the expansion of the hot spot kits, we hope to keep our residents connected, engaged and looking to the future.”
The library district’s hot spot kit lending program has expanded.
The kits are now available at the Gila Bend, Fairway (Sun City), Guadalupe and El Mirage libraries.
Each kit includes a Chromebook laptop and a hot spot.
Individuals can check out the hot spot kits for up to three weeks with the option to renew five times.
Those who want to check out a kit have to have their library card registered at a participating branch and must sign a loan agreement.
The lending program began in June 2019 at the Gila Bend branch.
