PHOENIX — A funeral procession for fallen Peoria police officer Jason Judd will close parts of the Loop 101 and Interstate 17 on Tuesday, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Drivers using either the eastbound Loop 101 or southbound I-17 while the procession is underway have been asked to plan ahead for the following traffic restrictions between approximately 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.:

  • Closure of the northbound and eastbound Loop 101 and on-ramps in areas between Bell Road and I-17
  • Closure of southbound I-17 and on-ramps between the Loop 101 in north Phoenix and Seventh Street near downtown
  • Closure of the westbound Loop 101 off-ramp at 67th Avenue
  • Closure of the westbound Loop 101 ramp to southbound I-17

Officer Judd’s funeral will take place Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Christ’s Church of the Valley, located at 7007 W. Happy Valley Road in Peoria.

Those planning on attending are asked to wear a mask and physical distance when possible as precautions toward the COVID-19 pandemic.

After honors are held in the grass areas outside of the church, the procession will enter the eastbound Loop 101 via southbound 67th Avenue and proceed from Loop 101 to southbound on I-17 and travel south of the I-10 “stack” interchange.

Judd died on July 1 after being involved in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash at Liberty High School near Deer Valley Road and 91st Avenue.

The accident occurred following the completion of a demonstration for students at the Peoria Youth Citizen Police Academy.

Judd is survived by his wife and two sons.
