PHOENIX – Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a minor Wednesday for retrieving multiple packages of methamphetamine dropped from a drone.
The drone crossed the Mexico border near San Luis and agents saw a young man in the same area.
The agents made contact with the suspect, a 17-year-old United States citizen, and a Border Patrol dog reacted to something in the car.
A search of the vehicle revealed there were nine packages of meth, which weighed more than 12 pounds each with an estimated value of $26,0000.
Agents arrested the teen for drug possession, and the drugs and vehicle were seized.
Last month, agents intercepted two drones carrying narcotics over the border in separate incidents. Those seizures accounted for an estimated $303,000 worth of narcotics.
Border Patrol officials urge anyone to anonymously report suspicious activity by calling 1-877-872-7435.
