PHOENIX—The Gilbert Regional Park is expected to open the next phase of expanded amenities in mid-July.
The park will open 16 pickleball courts, six tennis courts, two basketball courts, restroom facilities and two ramadas.
“We love to bring these kinds of amenities to south Gilbert,” Jennika Horta with Gilbert Parks and Recreation told KTAR News 92.3 FM.
“A lot of our amenities were previously in the north portion of Gilbert, but it’s definitely a regional attraction.”
Another phase set to open in the early fall will feature a 7.5-acre community fishing lake that will provide irrigation for the park, six sand volleyball courts, a 10-acre event field, an amphitheater and more ramadas.
The town is planning to host festivals, concerts and other small events at the amphitheater.
Gilbert initially broke ground on the 272-acre project in May 2018.
The park’s first phase opened in September when a 17-foot playground structure, splash pads and various water features were unveiled.
The splash pads are currently closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the park is planning to reopen them later this summer.
The park is located near Higley and Queen Creek roads.
