PHOENIX – A suspect in a Phoenix double-homicide has been arrested, police said Wednesday.

Estevanico Palmares, 37, was booked Tuesday on two counts of first-degree murder, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

He was taken into custody in the area of 48th Street and Broadway Road, in the vicinity of the crime scene.

Officers responded to the area around 3:15 p.m. Monday to do a welfare check after a caller reported hearing gunshots earlier, police said.

They found an unresponsive man and woman, who were pronounced dead at the scene by Phoenix Fire Department responders.

The woman was identified as 30-year-old Cristina Palmares. The identity of the 35-year-old male victim has not yet been made public.

Detectives interviewed Palmares after arresting him Tuesday and developed probable cause to book him into jail.

No other details were immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

Anybody with information about the case was asked to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (948-6377) or 480-TESTIGO (837-8446) for Spanish.

We want to hear from you.
