PHOENIX — The Arizona health department reported 33 new deaths from coronavirus Tuesday morning, a day after the state reported zero fatalities.
Arizona now has 395 deaths from COVID-19. With 386 additional positive tests, the total of cases increased to 9,305.
There have been 88,260 tests given in Arizona, according to the report, an increase of 3,007 from the previous day.
The Arizona Department of Health Services has been providing case and testing updates on its website each morning. The daily report includes details about deaths and hospital capacity plus a ZIP code map of cases.
The department reported totals of 8,919 cases and 362 deaths with 85,253 tests given on Monday morning. Eight percent of the completed tests have come back positive.
Monday afternoon, Gov. Doug Ducey announced plans to start opening some businesses that he’d ordered closed to fight the spread of COVID-19.
Ducey said barber shops and hair salons can reopen starting Friday if they adhere to health guidelines and protections as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
He also said restaurants and coffee shops will be able to operate starting May 11 with limited occupancy and with built-in social distancing precautions.
Coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms for most people, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
In most cases, a positive test won’t change a patient’s treatment plan.
Nationally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 67,456 deaths from more than 1.1 million COVID-19 cases as of Monday’s daily U.S. update.
According to data compiled and regularly updated by Johns Hopkins University, there were more than 3.6 million cases and about 252,000 deaths globally as of Monday afternoon.
