PHOENIX — Three Arizona school districts announced plans Saturday to hold graduation at State Farm Stadium over summer.
The Peoria, Dysart and Deer Valley school districts will have their graduation ceremonies take place at the Arizona Cardinals football stadium should COVID-19 restrictions allow.
Graduation ceremonies for schools in the Peoria Unified School District are scheduled for June 26 and 27. Dysart schools are scheduled for June 30 and Deer Valley for July 2 and 3.
“In light of the physical school closures through the end of this school year as ordered by Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, social distancing guidelines and event size restrictions, it is not prudent to hold ceremonies as originally scheduled,” the districts said in a joint statement.
“Our districts still want to hold these important ceremonies, and we are making plans to do so, if it is feasible.”
These dates are dependent on gathering restrictions due to the coronavirus being lifted or adjusted in time for the events.
Individual schools’ graduation times and dates have yet to be decided. Additionally, the districts are still working out the format in which the ceremony will take place.
The school districts said seniors and families will be given updates once more information is clear.
About 96,000 students attend schools in those three districts.
