PHOENIX — As part of its efforts to protect public health and safety while continuing to serve the most vulnerable, the Salvation Army’s Kroc Center in South Phoenix has shifted from regular operations to provide increased community assistance and support.
At this time, all regular Kroc Center classes and membership offerings will be suspended. But the assistance to the public has increased when it comes to support.
In the days and weeks to come, the Kroc Center is working to provide as much support and services to the South Mountain community it can.
“We are providing essentials to the community between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., where they can come in and receive limited amounts of toilet paper, feminine products, food and other things that seem to be sparse right now,” Captain Caroline Rowe with the Kroc Center told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Thursday.
The center will also indefinitely offer to-go breakfast and lunch for children ages 18 and under. Starting March 24th, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon, it will provide emergency food boxes to those in need.
With the coronavirus said to greatly impact the older people in communities, the Kroc Center has also dedicated to checking in on seniors in their community.
“We know that seniors are most vulnerable and they’re isolated right now, so we call 700 seniors every single week in our service area to check with them, pray with them, and talk with them,” Rowe added.
If you would like to donate essentials you can donate directly to the Kroc Center located near 16th Street and Broadway Road.
