PHOENIX — Two new patients in Pinal County returned presumptive positive cases of coronavirus, bringing the total to five patients so far in Arizona.

A healthcare worker who lives in Pinal County but works in Maricopa County was diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus yesterday.

The two cases announced Saturday morning stemmed from the same household as the health care worker who was announced to have contracted the illness on Friday, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services.

She was described as a woman in her 40s and was being treated as the state’s first case of spread rather than contact with a known source.

“This individual did not expose very many people at all because she was vigilant about staying home when she was sick,” Dr. Rebecca Sunenshine, Maricopa County Department of Public Health director, said during a press conference.

As of Saturday morning, 56 people in Arizona had been tested for the virus.

The ADHS is providing test result updates online each morning. They now list two confirmed positive patients and three presumptive positive.

COVID-19 has infected more than 100,000 people worldwide, killing more than 3,000, since the outbreak began in Wuhan, China.

The virus has killed more than a dozen people in the U.S. and infected more than 200.
