PHOENIX – Police arrested a Scottsdale bank robbery suspect Thursday evening after seeking the public’s help with identifying him earlier in the day.

Scottsdale detectives took Jeffrey M. Browning, 49, into custody at his Phoenix residence, the Scottsdale Police Department announced Friday.

No details were given about how investigators linked Browning to the robbery at the Comerica Bank at Scottsdale and McDowell roads.

On Wednesday around 3 p.m., a man walked up to the bank’s counter and demanded money from a teller and said he was armed, police said.

He was given an undisclosed amount of cash and then left the scene in an older model faded light blue Nissan Sentra four-door sedan, police said. The vehicle was last seen headed westbound on McDowell Road.

The suspect was described as being in his mid to late 30s and approximately 5-foot-8 inches tall with long brown hair.

He was wearing dark-rimmed eyeglasses, a white or gray hooded sweatshirt with a Vans logo on the back, jeans and black Vans-type shoes with white stripes.

Anybody with information about the case was asked to call the Scottsdale Police Department at 480-312-5000 or make an anonymous tip to Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (948-6377) or online.

We want to hear from you.
