Arizona Gov. Ducey appoints Daniel Ruiz as state’s new COO

PHOENIX — Gov. Doug Ducey announced Monday he has appointed Daniel Ruiz as Arizona’s newest chief operating officer.

Ruiz has worked with the governor since 2015, most recently as his senior adviser, according to a press release.

In his new position, Ruiz will oversee the operations of all state agencies and manage Ducey’s cabinet.

“Daniel Ruiz is a leader and a doer, and has earned the respect of stakeholders and other leaders throughout our state, both inside and outside of government,” Ducey said in the release.

Ruiz has also worked as the governor’s director of media affairs and communications director. In 2018, he helped plan the state’s memorial service for Sen. John McCain.

Before working for the state, Ruiz was employed at the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office and the Citizens Clean Elections Commission.

“I’m looking forward to working directly with our senior staff, our agency directors and our dedicated state employees to continue the Governor’s vision of Opportunity for All in the state of Arizona,” Ruiz said in the release.

He replaces Gilbert Davidson, the former town manager of Marana, who stepped down last month.
