PHOENIX – Valley Metro will host three community events about the light rail expansion in the coming weeks.
The proposed plan will be a 10-mile extension that will connect the existing Valley Metro rail system in downtown Phoenix to the 79th Avenue and I-10 Park and Ride. The new route would include nine stations.
The city council approved a phase in 2016 to design this extension. The route is expected to be completed in 2023.
The community events are designed to give the public an input on the process.
Project staff will be available to answer questions following a presentation.
The staff will prepare a federally-required Environmental Assessment once the route has been finalized with technical analysis and community input.
The meetings are:
— Jan. 14: Desert Community Center, 6501 W. Virginia Avenue. 6 p.m.
— Jan. 15: Issac Middle School, 3402 W. McDowell Road. 6 p.m.
— Jan. 18: Neighborhood Ministries, 1918 W. Van Buren Street. 9 a.m.
