PHOENIX — The Valley nonprofit that hosts the area’s most popular golf tournament has named a new executive director.
Chance Cozby was announced Wednesday as the executive director of The Thunderbirds, the nonprofit said in a press release.
Cozby has been a member of The Thunderbirds since 2010 and was the tournament chairman for the 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open.
“It gives me tremendous pride to be named executive director of this outstanding group, which does so much good for our local communities, not only through hosting the Waste Management Phoenix Open, but also through a hands-on approach with our charity partners,” Cozby said in the release.
Cozby will replace outgoing executive director John Bridger, who spent 18 years in the position.
Cozby will begin his role on Nov. 1 and officially take over in the spring of 2020, according to the release.
The Thunderbirds raised a record $13.2 million for charity from the 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open and have raised more than $147 million since the organization’s inception, according to the release.
“The dedication and attention to detail The Thunderbirds display on a daily basis to lift up children and families in the Valley and throughout our great state is why I’m proud to be a Thunderbird and why I’m honored to assume this new position.”
