Drinkwater Boulevard underpass in Scottsdale to reopen this weekend
PHOENIX — A Scottsdale underpass that has been closed for more than year is set to reopen this weekend.
The Drinkwater Boulevard underpass near the Civic Center Plaza was closed in July 2018 due to “concrete deterioration from leaking fountains and irrigation,” according to the city.
Repairs began in December. Workers poured the final slab of its deck in July of this year and have focused on drainage, waterproofing and surface restoration since.
The $7.17 million project has resulted in two tunnels with improved lighting as well as other structural changes.
According to the city, traffic on the nearby Miller Road used for detours increased by 30% during the closure.
The city did not say exactly when the closure will be lifted.
The Civic Center Plaza is still under renovation, with plans to open later this fall.
