The Arizona State Fair has it all, including a kid reporter
State fairs are a time-tested tradition, with a whiff of nostalgia and something for all ages. The Arizona State Fair — ranked in the top 10 nationwide, according to Livability — is no exception, offering a carnival with food, rides, events and performances.
“The State Fair is an iconic place of significance and belonging for our community and an annual tradition in my family” said Luis Gonzalez, Arizona Diamondbacks World Series Champion and Fair Foundation board member, according to azstatefair.com.
A unique opportunity sets the Arizona State Fair apart as, once again, it offers one lucky young journalist the chance to report on the fair as a real correspondent. Parents can submit entries here for their kids to become the official kid correspondent, who will help create videos and do radio segments about everything going on during the fair’s Oct. 4-27 run.
Whether reporting on or attending the fair, here’s what’s in store for you.
Concerts at the Arizona State Fair have long been an unforgettable part of the experience. History-making lineups have included Elvis and Cher, among many others since 1976.
This year’s lineup features a diverse set of musical talent, starting with Emmy-nominated artist Billy Currington, who kicks off the fair Oct. 4. Rock fans will appreciate appearances by The Cult and Stryper, while old-school fans can look forward to Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo. Award-winning singers like Lee Brice, Trace Adkins, and Becky G will also perform. The lineup finishes off strong with performances at the end of the month by AWOLNATION and MC Hammer.
You can even sign up to perform yourself with the Community Stages event.
In the past, the Arizona State Fair has played host to nationally recognized events, such as the National Arm-Wrestling Championships. The past few years have added another splash of culture in the form of a prize-winning dance competition, where you can see participants burn up the dance floor.
You can also visit a retro arcade that’s making waves this year, take part in Esports Gaming World, and check out everything from monster trucks and racing events to rodeos, petting zoos, and cooking competitions.
There’s a lot to see and do, so plan ahead, and don’t miss a thing.
It’s no secret that the food at the fair is indulgent and mouth-watering. Deep-fried anything and funnel cakes abound, along with freshly squeezed lemonade and corndogs. Food trucks are ready to deliver the temptations your taste buds have been craving all year.
The rides are worth the additional cost, but families with young kids have another option. Any Arizona student from ages 5 to 14 can read three approved books and complete the Read & Ride Report form. Then it’s as simple as turning in the form at Guest Services to receive a free ride pass.
Additionally, everyone can join Fair Fandom to get in on the latest deals, newest attractions, and events all year long.
With all there is to do, plan your trip to the fair, so you can see, hear, and taste everything you and your family have been looking forward to. Visit azstatefair.com for all the details and to start preparing for your day — or days — at the fair.
