PHOENIX — If you’re spending the Fourth of July in Arizona, you’re celebrating the holiday in one of the top 20 most patriotic states in the nation.
WalletHub compared all 50 states across 13 indicators to find which ones were best at showing their national pride.
“We looked at that both in terms of military and civic engagement. So everything from the share of enlisted military population, to the number of adults who voted in the last presidential election, to things like AmeriCorps volunteers per population,” Jill Gonzalez, WalletHub analyst, told KTAR News 92.3 FM last week.
The Grand Canyon State came in at No. 16 overall and No. 1 in terms of civic education requirements.
“(Arizona) did pretty good in terms of military engagement especially things like veterans per capita as well as the civilian population in military reserves,” Gonzalez said.
“And it did well in terms of civic engagement as well. Could be a little bit better in terms of voter turnout, but pretty high in terms of the residents who participate in civic groups or organizations.”

Arizona had the sixth-most military enlistees per 1,000 adults and 26th-most active duty military personnel per 100,000 adults.
New Hampshire, Wyoming and Vermont topped the list, while New Jersey, New York and California rounded out the bottom.
