PHOENIX — President Donald Trump on Tuesday endorsed Republican Sen. Martha McSally, who is seeking a second term in the 2020 election.

“A brave former fighter jet pilot and warrior, Senator Martha McSally of Arizona has done an outstanding job in D.C., and is fully supportive of our agenda – she is with us all the way,” the Republican president said in a tweet.

“Martha is strong on Crime and Borders, the 2nd Amendment, and loves our Military and Vets. She has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”

McSally ran for former Sen. Jeff Flake’s seat in 2018 but lost to Sen. Kyrsten Sinema.

Trump visited the Valley to campaign on McSally’s behalf in October 2018.

McSally was appointed to the Senate in December after Gov. Doug Ducey picked her to succeed outgoing Sen. Jon Kyl to serve in late Sen. John McCain’s seat.

McSally, a former Air Force pilot, will likely face former astronaut and Navy pilot Mark Kelly. No other candidates have entered either primary.

Trump’s endorsement came a day after Politico reported that McSally was shaking up her campaign team.

The 2020 election will decide who finishes the last two years of McCain’s term. The winner would have to run again for a full six-year term in 2022.
