PHOENIX — A man was accused of attacking five Transportation Security Administration agents at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Tuesday.
Tyrese Gardner, 19, attempted to rush through the security checkpoint at Terminal 4 around 9:45 a.m., according to a TSA statement.
Court records said the Texas man may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Transit security officers and Phoenix police stationed at the airport subdued Gardner, who was arrested.
He was charged with five counts of misdemeanor assault and one count each of criminal trespassing and resisting arrest, according to police.
One agent was taken to the hospital while four were taken to nearby urgent care clinics, according to the statement.
“This unprovoked and brazen physical attack against our TSOs is unacceptable,” the statement said.
“We are grateful for our committed workforce and for the role they play in protecting the traveling public every day.”
No other information was immediately available.
