PHOENIX — Partygoers in Arizona who want to cheers to the new year will have plenty of options to get home safe after the clock strikes midnight.

Arizona Department of Public Safety Capt. Jesse Chavez said troopers and deputies will be on state roadways for New Year’s Eve to catch any reckless or impaired drivers.

“Impaired drivers can be found on the road… all hours of the day, that’s why we strive to make the roadways as safe as possible by removing them as often as we can,” he told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Arizona’s Morning News Friday.

AAA will again offer its Tipsy Tow service, which allows anyone — not just AAA members — to request a free tow up to 10 miles.

The service will begin at 6 p.m. Monday and will continue until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Arizonans who are looking to access the service can call 1-800-AAA-HELP and ask for a Tipsy Tow.

The caller will also have to provide the driver’s name, address, phone number and vehicle location.

AAA will then take the driver, their vehicle and one guest to their home or to a nearby hotel if they are planning to spend the night there.

After 10 miles, the driver will be charged a standard towing rate.

Tipsy Tow also does not include roadside assistance for services like flat tires or dead batteries.

Those in the Phoenix-area can also use the Valley Metro light rail, bus or Dial-a-Ride service for free starting at 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

The light rail will run until 2 a.m. on New Year’s Day to accommodate Valley celebrations. All of the bus routes will operate on a regular schedule, with most service ending between 2 and 3 a.m.

Anyone with the ride-sharing app Uber can get $5 off two rides to or from light rail stations until 10 a.m. Tuesday with the code “CLHOLIDAY18.”

The Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and Lyft also teamed up to offer discounts to riders until Wednesday. Existing users can use “SAFEARIZONA18” to get 20 percent off two rides and new users can save $5 off four rides using “SAFEARIZONA.”

We want to hear from you.
