CenturyLink resolves outage that affected Arizona customers
A national telecommunications company tweeted Saturday that it restored service to customers after an outage that began Thursday affected parts of Arizona.
PHOENIX — A national telecommunications company tweeted Saturday that it restored service to customers after a lengthy outage that began Thursday affected parts of Arizona.
CenturyLink said in the post that the network event was resolved, and services for business and residential customers were restored.
The company did not immediately provide further details about the cause of the outage or how it was fixed.
The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday its 911 centers were experiencing intermittent phone service disruption.
According to ABC15, the sheriff’s office was redirecting all 911 and administration lines to the Douglas Police Department.
The sheriff’s office also said it appeared that Bisbee and Benson’s 911 systems were down as well.
Carol Capas, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, told KTAR News 92.3 FM that officials advised called who could not get in touch with emergency officials using 911 to call the administrative line at 520-432-9500.
Capas said there had not been any reports of issues as of Friday morning.
The outage began early in the day but by late Thursday night, the company tweeted that its engineers had identified a “network element” that was affecting services and expected to fully restore services within hours.
CenturyLink didn’t provide details of the problem and it didn’t indicate how many customers were affected. Customers from New York to California reported outages.
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai said outage is “completely unacceptable” because people who need help couldn’t use the 911 emergency number.
CenturyLink spokeswoman Debra Peterson said the outage was not related to hacking and declined further comment.
