PHOENIX — Child patients at a Phoenix hospital will soon be able to access better oral health care, thanks to a partnership between the hospital and a dental insurance provider.
Delta Dental of Arizona announced Monday that it committed nearly $300,000 for a two-year pilot program with the Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
The pilot program, called the Delta Dental Oral Health Education Program, will allow the hospital to provide oral health training to clinical staff, patients and their families.
The program will focus on improving the medical outcomes of patients who are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital’s cancer and blood disorder center.
Allan Allford, the CEO for Delta Dental of Arizona, said in a statement that the program will help improve oral health for patients who might not be able to prioritize it.
Officials hope to eventually implement the the oral health protocols for all patients with a peripherally inserted central catheter in the center.
