PHOENIX — Downtown Mesa is transforming into a winter wonderland from Nov. 23 to Jan. 4 during the Merry Main Street festival.
The event kicks off with a tree lighting ceremony on Friday and carries on past Christmas for those looking for a reason to get into the holiday spirit.
Mesa Mayor John Giles said that it was one of the best events the city hosts all year long.
“I’m super excited,” Mayor Giles said. “We used to have Merry Main Street decades ago.”
The event was brought back in 2015.
“It was pretty much a one weekend event where we just brought some snow from up north and dumped it in the street,” Giles said. “We’ve really taken it up several notches since then.”
Near the Mesa Arts Center, at Main Street and Center Street will be the Santa’s sELFie Village where visitors can create holiday cards.
A skating rink will be set up across the street. The rink will be open Monday through Friday 5-10 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday 12-10 p.m.
The Jack Frost Food Truck Forest will be set up further west at the Pioneer Park on Main Street and Hobson.
There will be other events throughout the season at the Mesa Arts Center, which can be found on the event’s website, including musicals, performances and concerts.
