Allegiant Airlines adds more nonstop routes to Mesa airport

PHOENIX — Low-cost carrier Allegiant Airlines has begun to offer nonstop service to and from the Phoenix area on four more routes, the company announced Wednesday.
An introductory sale had fares beginning as low as $50 one way from Mesa Gateway Airport to Kansas City, Missouri; Louisville, Kentucky; Omaha, Nebraska and Boise, Idaho.
The sale began with the announcement; Boise flights can be purchased beginning Thursday.
“We are committed to working hard to ensure these new flights are very successful,” J. Brian O’Neill, executive director and CEO of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority, said in a press release.
The Las Vegas-based airline had brought in eight new routes to the East Valley airport in June.
“We’re very excited,” Allegiant official Lukas Johnson said in a partial statement.
The Omaha flight will be seasonal. Sale tickets must be used by late February.
The airport began work Sunday night on a construction project that will improve the Transportation Security Administration security checkpoint.
The changes will add a screening lane, up from the current four. There could eventually be as many as six lanes.
The work will all go on at night. The two-phase plan was expected to be completed in February.
The airport said 1.4 millions passengers went through the airport last year.
