PHOENIX — The 16th Hole at the Waste Management Phoenix Open is widely known as one of the most raucous holes at a golf tournament in the nation.

Although the hole next to it won’t exactly be getting more wild, it will be getting a big improvement.

“We are creating a new hospitality venue which we call the Cove, or Cove 17,” said Carlos Sugich, a 2018 tournament chair member of the Waste Management Phoenix Open. “Basically it’s a new structure that we’re going to have for next year that we’re going to have about 60 total suites, two lounge bars, and in addition, we’re going to add 700 general admission seats as well on the front of that structure. So 17, and specifically Cove, is going to be a very exciting new venue to look for in 2018.”

Sugich said they are also expanding their most luxurious corporate venue on the same hole that’s found along the fairway. They are adding 50 suites and the structure will now go down to the lake.

With the added seats and already a popular 17th hole, it seems it might get even more rowdy there. Sugich downplayed that it will be like No. 16 anytime soon, however.

“The 16th hole is obviously a signature hole. It’s become a bucket list for a number of people across the state and from out of state as well,” Sugich said. “No, (a crazier environment) is not the intent. The intent is to add more corporate options and to add more cool features on 17, just because we think 17 is such an exciting hole, and we want to have different options for people.”

A pre-tournament buzz will be a thing this year as well, as the Phoenix Open announced Tuesday that two-time Super Bowl Champion quarterback Peyton Manning will be the headline speaker at the luncheon.

The luncheon, held at The Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale on Dec. 13, will be emceed by President and CEO Derrick Hall of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

“The Tee Off Luncheon is such a popular event in the community and something that really kicks off the Waste Management Phoenix Open,” Sugich said. “Not only will we talk about all of the exciting things we have in store for 2018, we will get to hear stories from one of the best quarterbacks to ever play football. We’re more than thrilled Peyton Manning will be our featured speaker at the Tee-Off Luncheon.”

Tickets are $150 per person or $1,500 for a table of 10 that can be purchased here.
